We need you :-)
The Wonders of Wynyard relies heavily on volunteer participation to provide the authentic, friendly local, face to face contact our visitors appreciate. Volunteers can work a morning or afternoon shift (4 hours each) or a whole day. Rosters can be arranged for regular weekly slots - or can be on a casual basis. There is no minimum requirement - any time you are able to offer is most appreciated. Training will be provided. There are currently two different volunteer roles available at the WOW:
Customer Service Officer - our first point of contact with visitors, offering friendly advice on local attractions, accommodation, eateries and all things touristy! Volunteers assist visitors with brochure selection, itinerary suggestions and travel advice. The Visitor Information Centre also provides a vital service to visitors in times of emergency such as bushfire and floods - monitoring road closures and keeping visitors safe on their travels.
Veteran Car Collection - Car volunteers work in the museum. Main duties include welcoming visitors and adding value to the visitor experience by relating interpretive material about the individual cars in the collection, polishing the cars and maintaining a generally high standard of exhibition. Volunteers follow a roster and partake in the general maintenance of the display area which includes polishing of brass, emptying oil pans, polishing floor mirrors, cleaning all car glass, polishing paintwork, vacuuming interiors when needed and dusting of the exhibits, maintaining air pressure in all car tyres and assisting with the general cleaning of the area.
If you are interested in being a volunteer at the Wonders of Wynyard, please fill in the form and one of our staff will be in contact with you shortly.
